If you are looking for a very cost effective entry into family caravanning, this hi-spec, 4 berth German-built 2003 Knaus Sudwind 500, is the perfect starter caravan.  German-engineered caravans are made to last and this one is in excellent condition.  The layout in the Sudwind 500 is very modern and features a spacious 'U' shaped lounge and a large fixed bed.  The sale includes an Omnistor sun canopy and other essentail extras (to be confirmed).

The Knaus Sudwind has been stored undercover with us since 2015, and has just been cleaned by us and serviced and damp checked by an independent specialist caravan workshop for real peace of mind.   It offers a practical and fun entry into family caravanning and is light enough to be towed by most medium sized cars.

It will suit a family or a couple looking for the extra space provided by the layout.

These Knaus caravans are typically continental in design and appearance:  well-engineered, with a robust, solid look and feel to the exterior.  Built on a galvanised chassis, the Knaus features an AL-KO stabilising hitch, gas assisted handbrake, an extended A frame which provides stable towing and has a fitted cycle carrier, the exterior is also recognisably continental, with its practical corner bumpers, textured aluminium side walls and bold yellow and grey graphics.

Inside the caravan, the spacious 4 berth layout provides a large lounge area in the front and a rear bedroom wth a desirable fixed bed.  The equipment in the Knaus is standard to U.K. caravans so spares are all readily available.  Continental vans age well; the interior of the Knaus is practical and hardwearing: there is none of the ‘chinz’ which can often be found in U.K. caravans of this age and the whole interior feels surprisingly modern.

At the front there is a large double-glazed window which enable a panoramic new from the U-shaped lounge, which provides very spacious seating for four.  The seats lift up to provide access to storage underneath and can be used as two single beds.  The upholstery is quite neutral for a caravan of this age and is complemented by matching curtains and scatter cushions all of which are in very good condition. There is a sturdy folding table which provides a comfortable dining experience and, when used with the seat cushions, makes a large double bed.  There are overhead ‘aircraft-style’ lockers in the lounge area.providing additional storage.  The windows, like all the windows in the Knaus, have net curtains, blackout curtains and night ventilation latches.

Moving back through the caravan, to the right of the exterior door is the kitchen area.  Continental caravans rarely feature ovens or grills, reflecting a different approach to cooking but this Knaus has a thermostatically controlled combination oven and grill as well as a hob with three gas burners, providing options for all catering requirements.  The rest of the kitchen is very appointed and contains a 3 way fridge with matching wood-effect door, stainless steel sink and mixer tap with integrated folding lids, which provide a large amount of worktop space.  There are overhead lockers, one with a tambour door, a cup rack and shelving which provides plenty of storage for crockery, as well as a drawer for cutlery.

Opposite the kitchen unit are two large wardrobes with hanging space and shelving inside for clothing.  This unit also contains the simple but effective Truma space heater and blown air system, which circulates warm air through a series of vents, throughout the caravan.

Adjacent to the kitchen is the bedroom which features a desirable fixed bed and a comfortable mattress, guaranteeing a good night’s sleep.  The bed lifts up to reveal a large storage space underneath and there are more overhead storage lockers in the bedroom as well as a TV point for watching your favourite programmes.  Opposite the bed is a handbasin with chrome mixer tap in a useful vanity unit, with large mirrors over the basin.

Next to the bedroom is the washroom, configured in wet room layout, and featuring a Thetford C-250 swivelling cassette toilet with electric flush, and a shower with chrome mixer tap and shower curtain.  There are storage lockers above the toilet providing space for toiletries.

The Knaus Sudwind 500 is equipped with 230V mains and 12v electrics, with a mixture of ambient and spot lighting throughout the interior.  The caravan is also fitted with a dual fuel water heater, providing hot water for the kitchen, handbasin and shower.

We like these continental caravans for their well-built feel and appearance and we love their solid, hardwearing interiors.  This Knaus Sudwind 500TF represents a great real opportunity to purchase a quality 4 berth caravan with a desirable fixed bed, at a very low price.  Built to last, this caravan should continue to deliver simple, fun, practical caravan holidays for years to come.
