Sterling redesigned their caravans for 2016, focussing on classy exteriors and up-to the minute-stylish interiors, to create an exciting range of touring caravans to make owners’ holidays as comfortable and relaxing as possible, whilst allowing them to enjoy the great outdoors: ‘Country. Coast. Freedom’.
Externally, the design of the Sterling range features a strong timber less body frame using PURe polyurethane technology and the swift group’s patented SMART construction methods. The 2016 Sterlings have a distinctive sweeping aerodynamic closed-mould GRP front with wide ‘carbon fibre’ front locker door and full height rear panel, and the roof was fully bonded for extra strength and flatness. Attractive graphite grey and red graphics and 'Storm' alloy wheel, set off the one-piece, gloss white GRP sides, providing excellent durability and impact resistance, over traditional aluminium. The Sterling features grade 3 insulation in the walls and redesigned 5 layer sandwich construction floor, making this a caravan which can be used in all seasons. Built on an AL-KO galvanised chassis, with shock absorbers, euro axle, two way assisted handbrake and AL-KO stabilising hitch, the Sterling Eccles 510 is a thoroughly modern and safe caravan to tow. The exterior Hartel door has an interior moulded liner, window and blind.
At the front of the caravan, panoramic privacy windows, featuring fly-creens and cassette black-out blinds, provide a fantastic view from the lounge which consists of 2 bench seats, of space-frame construction, which convert into a double bed with the pull-out slat system. Storage is provided under the seats, in the centre-positioned chest of drawers and in the overhead aircraft-style lockers. There is a small table which pulls out from the top of the chest and a separate folding table is provided in the rear wardrobe for family dining. The new Sterling interior redesign was clearly influenced by modern home and boutique hotel design. Gone is the standard wood effect furniture, replaced by matt white locker doors, with smoked lower inlays and chrome effect handles, switches and sockets. ‘Guetta’ soft furnishings comprise of a woven earthy brown seat fabric, bronze soft sheen cushions and complementary leaf pattern curtains. A neutral beige suede effect cushion adds a subtle dimension. The flooring is decked in French Oak vinyl which can be fully or partially exposed thanks to the loose rug and sectioned removable carpets. The combination of neutral soft furnishings and white finished lockers gives the caravan a very pleasing modern, light and airy feel.
Moving to the kitchen, the Sterling Eccles 510 features contrasting graphite locker doors, and is fitted with a graphite-effect kitchen sink with removable drainer, with an extended lift up worktop providing ample space for meal preparation. An attractive splash back adds a real touch of class to the kitchen. A dual-fuel hob with 800w electric hotplate, Thetford Aspire Mk2 domestic-style oven and grill and built-in, ventilated microwave oven above the sink, take care of all the cooking requirements from simple breakfasts to family meals. A large Dometic 110l fridge with freezer compartment has digital controls and attractive black finish. Opposite the kitchen is a neat dresser, with handy shelves and sockets for a TV. There is a hatch which allows a TV to be viewed either from the lounge or the bedroom.
Aft of the kitchen, a concertina door separates the bedroom from the rest of the caravan. A very large class-leading 6’6” x 4’3” fixed double bed features an exclusive Duvalay Duvalite mattress with lightweight memory fibre technology. The whole bed is mounted on an aluminium space frame which lifts up on gas struts to access the storage space underneath. There is also a locker door to help access to anything stored in this area when the bed is down.
The bedroom also has a full height wardrobe with hanging rail and a compact vanity unit with a mirror, washbasin and mixer tap. In the rear corner of the caravan is the washroom, in space saving wet room layout, featuring a Thetford c-250 swivelling toilet with electric flush and fully lined shower with separate mixer taps and adjustable position Ecocamel shower head. There is a bi-fold door between the shower and toilet, preventing the toilet from getting wet when showering.
The icing on the cake on this particular Sterling Eccles 510 is the additional of the optional Alde radiator central heating system which gives the fully programmable 7 day timer control over heating, with options for thermostatic control, in exactly the same way as a domestic central heating system. operated by an easy to use touchscreen, the Alde system works either with electric or gas and combines heating and hot water.
There is also a user friendly large 12v control panel with battery selection, battery state meter and water pump circuit control. The electrical system is fully rcd/mcd protected and there are four 230v sockets in the caravan. There are also concealed low energy LED lights and task lights in the caravan, which provide attractive lighting for the interior.
