If you are looking for a beautifully built, high specification 4 berth touring caravan with a traditional and extremely practical layout, then this 2017 Coachman VIP 520/4 really does tick an awful lot of boxes. As with many caravans brokered through Piran this caravan comes with the following extras included in the sale: Water pump, solar panel, hitch lock, wheel lock, aqua roll, wastemaster, gas bottle, caravan step, towing mirrors, rotary airer washing line with bag.
Coachman have long been known for producing caravans with an excellent standard of build quality and finish, and the VIP range has always sat towards the premium end of their line-up. The quality is noticeable as soon as you step inside, with a lovely feeling of space, plenty of natural light and the quality cabinetry, upholstery and fittings that you would expect from a Coachman VIP.
The 520 is a particularly versatile 4 berth layout, combining a large front lounge, central kitchen, side dinette and a fantastic full-width rear washroom. It works equally well for a couple wanting plenty of space for longer trips away or for a family who want a genuine 4 berth without moving up to a much larger or twin-axle caravan.
At the front of the caravan is the spacious lounge with two long opposing settees and a central chest of drawers. During the day this makes a lovely comfortable area in which to relax, eat or entertain, with plenty of light coming in through the large front windows and rooflight above.
For meals and drinks the centre chest incorporates a handy pull-out occasional table, while there is also a larger freestanding dining table when required.
At night the front lounge can be quickly converted into a large double bed, while there is plenty of useful storage beneath the seating and in the overhead lockers running around the lounge.
Moving into the centre of the caravan you will find the well-equipped kitchen, which provides everything needed whether you are simply making a cup of tea on a weekend away or preparing a proper meal on a longer holiday.
The kitchen includes a dual-fuel hob with three gas burners and an electric hotplate, separate oven and grill, microwave, 3-way fridge with freezer compartment and a stainless-steel sink with mixer tap. There is also plenty of cupboard, drawer and worktop space, making this a genuinely practical kitchen rather than something you will only use occasionally.
Opposite the kitchen is the side dinette, another reason why the VIP 520 is such a useful layout. During the day it gives you a separate dining or seating area away from the main lounge and at night converts into a single bed or bunks to provide the additional sleeping accommodation, turning the caravan into a true 4 berth.
The side dinette is also ideal if there are just two of you touring, as it provides somewhere to leave a laptop, books, maps or breakfast set up without having to disturb the main front lounge.
One of the real highlights of this model is the large full-width rear washroom. Having the washroom running across the entire rear of the caravan gives it a much more spacious feel than many side washrooms. There is a separate full-size shower cubicle, Thetford cassette toilet, washbasin and vanity area, along with useful storage and wardrobe space.
It makes the caravan genuinely self-contained and is particularly useful if you enjoy touring sites where the facilities are more basic, or simply prefer having your own private bathroom and shower with you wherever you travel.
Being a VIP, the specification is excellent and includes many of the features you would expect from a high-end Coachman, including hot water and blown-air heating, microwave, dual-fuel cooking facilities, 3-way fridge, cassette toilet, separate shower, blinds and flyscreens, loose-fit carpets, alarm, TV aerial, stereo system, large rooflight, solar panel, external gas BBQ point, external 230v socket, alloy wheels and spare wheel.
Despite all of the space and equipment, this remains a single-axle caravan, making it a very attractive option for buyers who want the comfort and specification of a larger tourer without wanting to move to a twin axle.
With an MTPLM of 1550kg, it is also within the towing capability of a good range of suitable tow cars. As always, we recommend checking the caravan against your particular tow vehicle before purchase.
Coachman caravans have an excellent reputation amongst experienced caravanners, and it isn't difficult to understand why when you spend some time inside a VIP. The combination of build quality, comfortable upholstery, excellent storage and thoughtful design gives these caravans a feeling of quality that really does need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.
